An Old Captivity Artifact
When Donald Ross arrived home from Canada, he went first to his Aunt Janet m Guildford. To
pay for his keep he handed over all of his money which amounted to the princely sum £17/6/4
(17 pounds 6 shillings and four pence). Here is that sum in a mixture of current notes and
pound coins and an assortment of pre-decimalization shilling and penny etc coins:-
1- 10 pound note l-5 pound note
2-1 pound coins
1 1953 "Coronation" special Crown (5 shillings)
1-1966 sixpence
I-old silver three-penny bit (might be 1909-Edward The Seventh?)
1-1955 "portcullis" threepennybit
1-1945 Jersey CI "liberated" penny
1-1941 Irish penny
1-amusement machine penny token
1-1929 halfpenny
1-1941 farthing (quarter penny)
