Downloading Installing and Setting up mIRC
NEW April 2nd 2004 Setting up a New mIRC Link
First of all why bother with all of this??
Why it is better to use mIRC
mIRC Download Page
download the very latest version 6.14 the file is mirc614.exe
it is a mere 1,290,240 bytes so it won't take long to download
and will fit on a standard floppy disc
click on the saved filename to install
I found that mIRC is not available for MACs. Now what do I do??
Yes there are MAC IRC clients click that link
If you get stuck go to the
mIRC Install Help page
go along with all destination etc options
installation options refers really to future upgrading so leave all checked as is
the newest bottom item should now be "mirc"
hover mouse over the word mirc
on the pop=out submenuclick the mirc icon
up pops an introduction page with a picture of the author
one Khaled Mardam-Bey of London, England
and a scrolling legend to tell you that you have an unlicensed copy
whether you register and pay him the requested $ nominally $20
or get this!!"mIRC costs US$20.00. You can, however, choose a
different amount below based on what you can afford,
if you wish" a selection box suggests $10 $20$30 $40!!
So it is up to you and your conscience really
Officially you have 30 days to evaluate it
But it appears to work for ever inlicensed
although you will have to put up with the registration block
every time you henceforth open mIRC
close that block and up pops a "Status" page quickly followed
by the mIRC Options(configuration) form as shown in the screenshot below
click the "add" tab
and see the "add" screen
Enter details as follows
details for setting up Rik's existing room
suggest you put "Rik's chat Room"
for now then if I organise a replacement room it can be added as "John's Chat room"
6667 it may well already have 6667 inserted
per mIRC help "This is rarely required so you should not have to enter anything unless
you have specifically been told to do so
so leave blank for now
then click "add" to return to the mIRC Options screen shown above
enter your name
an alternative nickname
then click "connect to IRC Server"
when main screen opens ignore any message
to enter identify/password - it
should continue without you doing anything
Then another screen opens with a list of chat rooms, headed "mIRC Channel Folder"
click on "Add"
type in #GordonLightfootChat
note there are no spaces in the room title
(the new entry gets added in alphabetical order to a long list of chat rooms already
so some time it will pay you to delete all above Gordon so it is at
the top of the list as shown below)
Click on #G.L..Chat
chat room should then open fully
In fact the direct link not using mIRC is:-
